Sandy Hollar Farms

One of the best Christmas tree farms near Asheville, Sandy Hollar Farms is a family-run, working farm in Sandy Mush Valley. Just a 40-45 minute drive from Asheville, they open weekends mid-November and make for a great stop on Thanksgiving weekend, including Thanksgiving Day. Trees start to run low at the beginning of December. Be sure to check their website before going.

Choose and cut the perfect tree, explore their Christmas shop for fresh wreaths, ornaments, garlands, and gifts, and enjoy a wagon ride. Warm up with marshmallows by the fire and hot chocolate, weather permitting.

Sandy Hollar Farms also has livestock, including llamas, goats, cows, donkeys, and sheep. Leashed dogs are welcome, and they accept cash, checks, and credit/debit cards. Saws and cords are available. Addison Farms Vineyard, a delicious winery, is only 15 minutes away.

Smoky Mountain Tree Farm

A family farm, Smoky Mountain Tree Farms sells Fraser Fir Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands, and pre-cut trees perfect for the Christmas season. They open 7 days a week the weekend before Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve (or until they run out). Uniquely, Smoky Mountain Tree Farm also rents out Christmas tree cabins. While here, we suggest exploring quirky Maggie Valley or walking Lake Junaluska.

Mehaffey Tree Farm

In operation and a family-owned farm since 1984, Mehaffey Tree Farm is a Choose & Cut tree farm open on limited weekends. Also located in Waynesville, for Christmas tree farms near Asheville, this is about a 40+-minute drive.

Mehaffey Tree Farm has Fraser Fir trees that typically range from 5 to 10 feet tall. Their season wraps up around mid-December based on tree inventory, and their Facebook page is the best place for updates. They accept cash and credit cards but not personal checks. Mehaffey Tree Farm does not plan to sell wholesale Fraser Firs in 2023.

Red Barn Tree Farm At Linville Falls Winery

Linville Falls Winery is one of the prettiest wineries near Asheville and they sell Christmas trees! Select your own Christmas tree, and a staff member will cut it for you. Or, choose from their pre-cut trees.

Enjoy hayrides and complimentary apple cider, cookies, and hot chocolate. Trees are priced by size and cost anywhere from $50 to $140. The Red Barn Tree Farm typically closes in very early December (around the first week).

Linville Falls Winery is close to Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls, home to some of Asheville’s top hiking trails and Western North Carolina’s most gorgeous waterfalls.

Boyd Mountain Christmas Tree Farm

A great day trip from Asheville, situated in Maggie Valley/Waynesville, Boyd Mountain Christmas Tree Farm is a Choose ‘n Cut tree farm that you will want to visit as soon as they open mid-November. They tend to run out quickly.

Select your Fraser Fir tree, and they cut it for you. Or, grab a bow saw and cut it yourself. Find paved access, plentiful parking, bathrooms, and handicap facilities. In their hospitality tent, shop for wreaths and gift items. You might even catch Santa Claus.

Leashed dogs are allowed in some areas. They accept cash, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express. Most notably, the Boyd Farm has been in the Boyd family for over 100 years.
